Happy day-after-Labor Day! I’m so grateful to be a working actor at the moment, and proud to be #UnionStrong (yay workplace protections and health insurance and retirement planning and and and…!) as a member of both Actors’ Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA.
I’m sending you this quick update from my actor housing in Oakland because, well…I’m still here! House of Joy has been EXTENDED for one more weekend at Cal Shakes, which means we get to tell this beautiful story two more times before saying goodbye. If you’re in the Bay Area, please join us:
- Saturday, September 7 at 8pm
- Sunday, September 8 at 4pm
All tickets are ONLY $40 to get as many new faces into the house as we can!
I’m having such a blast with this show – it’s truly an epic, magical experience to perform this particular tale outdoors, on such a large stage, under the stars (or in the blazing sun if it’s a matinee), where we can see and connect with every person in the audience. My cast is just wonderful – it’s such a treat to share the stage with so many brilliant performers who also happen to be women and people of color. We’ve all been learning to expand our definitions of what “powerful women” look and act like (answer: whatever and however they want!) and having a tremendous time discovering the nuances of our individual characters. It’s also thoroughly delightful to feel the many different moments audiences vocally respond to. See below for some production photos from our dress rehearsal three weeks ago. I hope to see you at the Bruns!
Oh! I almost forgot…San Francisco, you’re about to see a whole lot more of me 🙂 I’ve been cast in another world premiere play at a renowned regional theatre here, so I’ll be sticking around until December. And that’s all I can say for now! Stay tuned to my Facebook Page and Twitter for an announcement very soon!
